  • Dr. VSN Rao is the director - Medical Services & HOD - Radiation Oncology at HCG Cancer Centre, Vijayawada.
  • He has more than 30 years of experience in the field of radiation oncology.
  • Dr. Rao has a keen interest in external radiotherapy and brachytherapy. Dr. Rao is well-versed with all major radiotherapy techniques, such as 3DCRT, IMRT, IGRT, SRS, SRT, SBRT etc.
  • He is experienced in administering radiation therapy for the cancers of head & neck, breast, oesophagus, gastrointestinal tract, lung, brain and bones.
  • He is also well-versed with brachytherapy techniques like intracavitary, intraluminal, interstitial and surface moulds of various sites.
Training and Certifications
  • He completed his HDR & PDR brachytherapy training from a reputed institute in Germany.
Recognition
  • Dr. Rao was associated with the first endobronchial brachytherapy in India.
  • He is also the first radiation oncologist to administer PDR brachytherapy in India.
  • He has trained the staff and postgraduate students in HDR brachytherapy at Regional Cancer Centre, Cuttack in 2001.
  • He is a lifetime member of the Indian Medical Association and Association of Radiation Oncologists of India (AROI).
  • He was elected twice and has worked as the vice president of AP - AROI.
  • Dr. Rao is currently serving as the president of AP - AROI.
  • He participated in many cancer awareness camps and anti-tobacco campaigns.
  • He has delivered lectures in many organisations and among multiple medical fraternities in connection with radiation and oncology treatments.
  • Dr. Rao has also been a part of numerous conferences.
