Treatment Approach

This centre, just like every other centre in our network, works on the principles of the multidisciplinary approach where specialists from various subspecialties discuss the cases before coming up with the best possible treatment plans for them.

Our unique patient-focused, value-based and personalised treatment approach supports better treatment response and faster recovery among cancer patients. This multidisciplinary team comprises medical, surgical and radiation oncology along with trained experts in pain management and psychosocial support.

Diagnostic Services at HCG Ramaiah Cancer Centre

PET-CT:PET-CT is one of the advanced methods of molecular imaging that provides data on both anatomical and biochemical changes. PET-CT imaging helps in diagnosis, staging/restaging, treatment planning, therapy monitoring and treatment evaluation.

MRI Scan:MRI scans help in generating exceptionally detailed images of various organs like the brain, spine, prostate, uterus, liver, etc., which allow the specialists to differentiate between benign and potentially hazardous masses.

X-Ray:X-ray is a common imaging method that helps in detecting structural abnormalities within the body.

Mammography:Mammography is an imaging technique that is dedicated to breast cancer detection. Low-dose X-rays are used to look at the breast for the signs of benign or malignant tumours.

Ultrasound Scan:An ultrasound scan is suggested if swelling, pain or any symptoms are witnessed. This scan provides detailed information on the functioning of various internal organs and abnormalities if any.

We also have an in-house laboratory for pathology, histopathology tests, etc., which will help us provide the best diagnostic support to our patients.

The department also provides organ preservation and reconstruction services in order to support a better quality of life among patients after the treatment.

As a treatment modality, surgery removes cancer cells and other cancer-related symptoms. Before the specialist recommends surgery, numerous factors, such as the type, size, location, stage and grade of the tumour, along with other general health factors such as age, physical fitness and other medical conditions are taken into consideration. Often, surgery is combined with chemotherapy, radiation therapy or hormone therapy to enhance the overall effectiveness of the treatment. These may be given before surgery (neoadjuvant chemotherapy) or after surgery (adjuvant chemotherapy) to help prevent cancer growth, spread or recurrence.

Our surgical oncologists at HCG Ramaiah have vast experience in performing organ preservation surgeries. Organ preservation surgeries remove only the tumour from a site without having to remove the entire organ. Organ preservation surgeries can be performed for breast cancers, prostate cancers, tongue cancers and laryngeal cancers to name a few. While planning the treatment, the specialists plan on how to pro-actively manage any side effects from surgery. Surgical oncologists work with a team of nutritionists, rehabilitation therapists and other clinicians to support the patients’ healing and help them have a better quality of life after the treatment.

Minor OT: Minor OT typically refers to a room that is appropriate only for minor surgical procedures, such as punch Biopsy, ICD insertion and removal, chemo port removal, minor surgical dressing, resuturing and stapler removal, pigtail insertion, Hickman catheter removal etc.
